KUANTAN: Preventive measures taken by the Penor prison here have helped keep the 1,300 inmates free of influenza A (H1N1).
Prison director Jamil Razif Kassim said since the outbreak of the disease a few months ago, no cases had been reported at the prison.
He said inmates who had to attend court hearing would have to undergo H1N1 screening at the guard house each time they leave the prison compound and also before returning to their cells.
"Inmates who show symptoms of flu will be immediately referred to the clinic in the prison compound before being taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan hospital for further treatment.
"So far, no H1N1 cases have been reported and we hope it remains that way." - NST
