KUALA LUMPUR: Many people have become more cautious after learning of a new, deadlier strain of the A(H1N1) virus, which the World Heath Organisation said was spreading at an unbelievable rate.
Checks at KL Sentral yesterday showed that more people were wearing masks, compared to about a week ago.
Student Dewi Kencana Mohd Noor, 19, said she did not want to take chances.
“I always carry a sanitiser along and wash my hands more frequently now,” she said.
Engineer Crystal Peh, 26, said there were other ways for the flu to spread even if one wore a mask. “I always check my temperature and see the doctor immediately if I have any symptoms,” she said.
Zainab Ismail, who is blind, said she ensured her son used a mask all the time before leaving the house.
“My son has flu and I do not want the public to be infected through him,” she added.
Ng Choon Fai, a systems engineer, said he wore a mask only in crowded places. - The Star
