No Indication Of Progression Of A(H1N1) To Severe Disease - Liow

PENANG, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- There is no indication that the influenza A(H1N1) infection in the country might worsen, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said there was no report of the progression of the flu to severe disease in the country by the Institute of Medical Research (IMR) which was monitoring the situation.

"There is no changes in the virus detected by the IMR," he told reporters after attending a dialogue between MCA and Chinese associations here Sunday.

He was commenting on a warning issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on possible severe disease in A(H1N1) patients.

Liow said although no severe A(H1N1) infection reported in the country, the Health Ministry would continue to monitor the situation and conduct periodical screening tests.

"The public will be informed if there is a progression of the virus to severe disease and everybody must take care of their health and maintain good hygiene and abide by the ministry's guidelines," he added. -- BERNAMA
